My favourite web browser is now available in my favourite language! The latest version of Opera (9.60) is now available with its user interface in தமிழ்!

Here are a few screenshots: (Click on the images for a larger view.)

Opera 9.60 in தமிழ் (Tamil) with a non-standard skin . . .

To change the language: Tools—>Preferences—>Language or Ctrl+F12—>Language . . .

This is how my blog looks on the coolest browser on Earth . . .

Google India automatically appears in தமிழ்! . . .

Besides this, Opera 9.60 has some great new features. Check them out here.

Having realised the potential of the Indian market, Opera has decided to glocalise. Opera 9.60 is also available with the user interface in Telugu and Hindi. User interfaces in the other national languages of India will follow.

இது நம்ம (This is our) Opera!

Three cheers for Opera 9.60!!! 🙂

🙂 Nice 🙂 I am using chrome now, this is also pretty fast 🙂 but yes opera is the fastest 🙂 heard they are going to merge these two…any idea?

Interesting. I never knew that browsers could come in different languages. Opera Kallakuthu pole… But I am using Google Chrome, these days. Partly to offset the speed (OR the lack of it) due to Windows Vista. Should really migrate to Fedora Core, ASAP.

Destination Infinity

Vishesh,

Chrome seems to be a bit faster than Opera but Opera is much better for an all-round browsing experience. I haven’t heard of a possible merger 😦

Destination Infinity,

Opera rocks! 🙂 Chrome is a good choice if you want speed. I hope you make the switch to Linux 🙂

Great info again.. today only I came to know there is a browser
opera and it is also available in Tamil.

Kanagu,

Opera is a cool browser. Try it, I’m sure you’ll like it 🙂

but, opera-9.6 for linux does not display tamil letters properly? Any idea?

GR,

Unfortunately, I haven’t used Opera 9.6 with Linux, only Firefox and an earlier version of Opera. I’ll try this out and let you know.

Hi,
I found your blog while searching for solution to opera tamil.

I had downloaded 9.63, but thamizh is simply not showing up. (windows XP)

May I request you for some tips?

Hi Jayalakshmi!

I’ve just upgraded to Opera 9.63 on Win XP and unfortunately, it seems that தமிழ் is not yet available as an interface language on this version. The webpages still appear in Tamil when it is chosen (when such an option is available, like Google, etc.) but the interface language is English. Strangely, I’m not able to choose any other language, not even Norwegian as an interface language at the moment. I tried Opera 10 Alpha and it’s the same story. I believe Opera will add the language packs as soon as possible. Or this could be a possible bug on 9.63 that has not yet been fixed 😦

I guess we have no option but to wait. Or you could try Opera 9.62 as all interface languages are available and it works just fine. You can download Opera 9.62 here:

http://www.opera.com/download/?os=windows&ver=9.62&local=y

Infact, I guess they’ve added the language packs to Opera 9.63 now. Please try the international version of Opera 9.63 (8.6 MB) from this page:

http://www.opera.com/download/?os=windows&ver=9.63&local=y

Added later:

I did download it and it works fine now. Please download the international version which is available in several languages.
